Harrison Ford replaces the late William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross, making this Ford’s first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This also marks the sixth time a role was recast in the MCU. The previous five were:

Don Cheadle as War Machine, replaced Terrence Howard.
Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, replaced Edward Norton.
Zachary Levi as Fandral, replaced Josh Dallas.
Ross Marquand as Red Skull, replaced Hugo Weaving.
Kathryn Newton as teenage Cassie Lang, replaced Emma Fuhrmann.

Several roles were also recast in What If…? (2021). Ford is the first casting replacement due to a real-life death. Hurt passed away on March 13, 2022.
